Her Ringtone was a TV Theme I Can't Place

I SSSHHHed someone in a movie theater today. I feel a little weird about it, like I feel if I lose my temper over something shallow. She talked during the entire movie, and then her cell phone rang--of course--and she answered it.

And had a little conversation.

On her phone.

During a movie.

Not on her sofa at home, but in a theater with others around. She was probably mid-fifties, so I know she's familiar with etiquette and the various social laws of the movie theater.

See, what I wanted to do was say, "Hey asshole, turn off your phone, bitch." Maybe I would swap the order of "asshole" and "bitch", but I feel like they're both necessary. But I just SSSHHHed, and she probably didn't even know it was for her. And I laughed about it later with my friend, but I feel all guilty like I punched her or something.

Maybe I need more caffeine? Less?

Also feeling guilty about: Not flossing for, oh let's say...weeks; not working on my novel; not letting the dog walk as far as he'd like

I feel guilty for a lot of things, but I am with you here on this one...especially the fact that she was older...these kids today (as it were) have no frame of reference, but Miss 50-something should remember a time with the only other diversions at the movie theatre were your popcorn, Junior Mints and perhaps your date. Did she want everyone around to think she was so important she had to take calls in the movie theatre or is there just this growing obliviousness? Or, am I just pissed because one of my students didn't have his outline done last night and I said, "Well, e-mail it to me tonight." And he said, "I have a frat activity all night and into the morning." I said, "Get it to me by noon." He winced and said, "Uh, I dunno...." (as if I should know this frat activity on a WEDNESDAY night should preclude turning in an assignment) and I said, "Well, you can turn it in to me after that, but points will be deducted because it's late." But I thought, we should not even be having this conversation! This is not negotiable! This has been on the syllabus since the beginning of the semester!
Oh, but wait, we were talking about you.
And the cell phone lady.
You go with shushing her.
But I probably would have felt guilty too.
